Autism

Autism or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that includes differences or challenges in social communication skills, fine and gross motor skills, speech, and intellectual ability. There is a wide range of symptoms and how severe the are. Developmental disorders are diagnosed in childhood and last throughout life. There is no established cure for autism, but behavioral, educational, and family therapy may help reduce symptoms and build skills. A child diagnosed with autism will almost certainly grow up to be an adult with autism—with the challenges and strengths that come along with the diagnosis. Autism was first described as a distinct disorder during the 1930s.1 The definition, however, has changed radically over the years.
