life advice die happy

Earlier this month, I turned 35. The way NYE celebrations coincide so closely with my birthday always leads me to think closely about about the new year (and kicking it off at a new age!), as well as all the years that have led to this present moment. I also do this weird thing where I double my current age in my mind and think,  Where am I halfway to?  This year, the answer is 70. Halfway to 70! I think that’s pretty cool, and I know that the next 35 years will fly faster than the last—as you get older, each year represents a smaller percentage of your overall life. That’s why the first 20 years of your life always seem the longest. Here’s what I’ve learned over the last 35 years that has me heading into the next 35 regret-free:

control anxiety

Are you facing anxiety that is difficult to overcome? Anxiety is a struggle we all can find ourselves grappling with. It is debilitating, and easy for others or even ourselves to downplay. It can slowly creep up on you or pounce on you all at once. There is not always one reason for anxiety; there can be a multitude of reasons. However, it is not hopeless when it happens.

Solve Typical Life Problems

All of our problems are the same. This is the 156th time I’ve written this fact (for those of you counting). Problems are forever and we can’t avoid them. You’ll wake up tomorrow and have problems for breakfast. You’ll jump on the train and read a problem in your email inbox. You’ll get to the office and get a problem smack bang in your pretty face! The typical problems we face can be solved.

5 Ways to Help Yourself Advance Your Mental Strength

When life knocks you down and leaves you feeling battered and bruised, how do you help yourself get back into the game? The natural reaction is to spiral into panic and worry. Let’s face it, a knockdown can be emotionally and mentally exhausting. I think we can all agree that life can be a roller coaster ride at times. The way that I see it is that you can either scream your way through it or strap yourself in and move with the mess. I believe that the core difference between those who thrive through life, versus those who fall apart at the first sign of struggle, is their mental strength. Mental strength refers to the resilience and strength that people possess to soldier through struggles and succeed.[1] It is the secret sauce that allows you to push past exhaustion when everything in your body says just quit, but your mind refuses to give up.

It’s a Thin Line Between Love and Hate

It’s a Thin Line Between Love and Hate Love and hate are similar in being directed toward another person because of who he or she is. Despite this similarity, the two seem like polar opposites. Very often when we love someone, we want them to thrive. When we hate someone, we are more likely to wish they would suffer — or at least change who they are.  Yet we do not have to listen to The Persuaders' soulful vocals to know that love and hate can coexist. If you've ever loved, you know that you can hate a person you love. But how is that possible?
